The KWHA-HIO was formed in 1999 as a result of Kentucky Walking Horse Association membership approval for the formation of an HIO (Horse Industry Organization).  A Kentucky HIO development project had been considered for several years as a means to better serve its affiliated shows.  With continued encouragement by show managers and membership, the KWHA leadership began its own affiliation program at the end of the 1998 show season known as KWHA-HIO (Kentucky Walking Horse Association-Horse Industry Organization.)  The intent and purpose of the KWHA-HIO is to serve its member shows in the best manner.

KWHA-HIO JUDGE’S EVALUATION FORM

Guidance for the KWHA-HIO is directed by a seven-member
Oversight Committee of which the appointments to this committee
come from the KWHA. Stemming from the Oversight Committee
is the more specifically defined Hearing Committee. The KWHA-HI
also has an executive director and a DQP services coordinator.

I In 1999, the first full year of operations for KWHA-HIO, the program affiliated 62 shows.
The number of show affiliations in 2000 was 102; the number in 2001 was 118; and the number in 2002 was 124. Each year that KWHA-HIO has been in existence the operations have resulted in an excess of income over expenses .Because of the excess the program has elected to reward the shows that continue to affiliate with KWHA-HIO by offering a credit
incentive/rebate.
